Brokers Without Binding Authority: Underwriting Review and Policy Servicing in Garansure

MGAs, brokers and other insurance distributors do not always have the authority to approve risks or bind cover. That doesn’t have to prevent them from distributing insurance digitally on Garansure.

Garansure supports a workflow in which the distributor manages the customer journey and subscription, while specialist underwriting decisions can remain isolated and managed by an appropriate underwriting party (usually the insurer).

In the short video above:

  • Broker view: I access a subscription as a broker without underwriting authority. I can add notes or reopen a policy that is awaiting approval.
  • Underwriter view: I then log in as an underwriter and access the same subscription.
  • Underwriting actions: In addition to adding notes and reopening the policy, I can approve the subscription and issue the policy.
  • Policy management: Once the policy is issued, I can add endorsements or pause, suspend or cancel the active policy.
  • Underwriting activity log: Every change is recorded, clearly showing the date, time, action taken and the person responsible.
  • Automatic notifications: Actions such as endorsements and cancellations automatically trigger emails to the client and broker.
  • Endorsement documents: Each endorsement also generates a PDF document, which is automatically sent to the client.

This workflow allows MGAs and brokers to use Garansure, even when they do not have specific underwriting authority.

Who is it for?

Garansure has a specially designed feature for distribution networks that need a clear separation between selling insurance and approving risk.

MGAs and brokers can manage digital subscriptions without necessarily having underwriting permissions themselves. Underwriters have a separate underwriter logon to access the cases requiring their attention through role-based access controls.

How underwriting review works

From the CMS, users with the appropriate underwriting permissions can review outstanding subscriptions and:

  • Activate or refuse a subscription to determine whether it can proceed towards policy issuance.
  • Confirm an adjusted premium when an additional loading applies, or continue without a surcharge.
  • Reopen a subscription when the customer needs to make changes and submit it again.

These actions provide a structured review process, with the appropriate underwriting decisions taking place before the subscription proceeds to issuance.

After policy issuance: servicing throughout the policy lifecycle

Garansure supports more than the initial subscription and underwriting decision. Once a policy is active, authorised users can manage subsequent changes through the CMS.

Depending on the product and the permissions assigned, this includes:

  • Pauses: temporarily suspend cover, with the ability to resume it later.
  • Cancellations: manage the cancellation of an existing policy.
  • Endorsements: make changes to an existing contract, such as updating insured details.
  • Renewals: manage the renewal of policies.

Bringing these capabilities together helps insurers manage digital distribution and ongoing policy servicing through one configurable platform.
